Why Dental Implants Are The Better Choice, But Harder To Get

Julian Andrews

Dental implants are a fantastic option for those who have lost one or several teeth for whatever reason. Whether it is from an accident or due to some kind of disease that affected those teeth, dental implants make the perfect choice for those looking to replenish their jaw with a full set of pearly whites. However, dental implants are not as easy to get as other fake teeth, so you need to ensure you fit the eligibility criteria. Here is a little bit of a deeper insight into dental implants and why they are better than the alternatives but harder to get.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are composed of two parts. The first is a titanium piece of metal that is inserted into the actual jawbone. Depending on how many teeth you need to replace, you may need a few different insertion points. After that, fake teeth will be fitted snugly onto the top of the screw, giving it a firm connection that beats out any other type of dental alternative. In due time, your jaw will actually heal over this titanium screw and it will become as much a part of your body as all your other teeth.

Why Is It Harder To Get?

While other dental crowns and false teeth are generally fitted into your mouth the same way as the second part of the dental implant procedure, it is the first aspect that narrows down possible receivers of this treatment. The drilling of the screws into your jaw can be quite a shock to the body, and it also requires an otherwise healthy mouth. As such, older patients, those who have infections or receded gums and people with poorly developed teeth may be refused dental implants because they are too risky and could struggle with the operation.

Should You Worry If You Have Dental Implants Booked?

The dental implant procedure is extremely safe, and if you already have yours booked then you have passed all the necessary hurdles and make a fine candidate for this option. A dentist will never schedule someone in for dental implants who they think cannot handle it, and if you are refused then there are still alternatives. These alternatives, such as dentures, crowns, false teeth and so on, are all good in their own right. However, they just aren't as effective in the long-term as dental implants which is why that should be your preferred option. To learn more about dental implants, contact a dentist.

About Me
Dentures and Dentist

Hello, my name is Jack. I am now 79 years old. As you can imagine, my teeth have taken something of a battering over the years. I lost a couple of teeth in a bar fight, four more decayed and one had to be extracted when it became infected. After losing so many teeth, my dentist suggested that I have dentures fitted. I was worried about this but my dentist was really great. He helped explain the procedure and then did an excellent job. I love my new dentures and I wanted to start this blog to offer help to others.
